Acting 

This highly immersive, rigorous program is designed to ensure students are well prepared for their next role, whether that is a position with a major national or regional theatre company, a competitive national M.F.A. program, a fellowship or an apprenticeship.

Curriculum 

  • Our mission is to assist students in developing a strong process and technique.
  • Summer intensives offer opportunities to practice the craft; all students will spend at least one summer as a member of the company at the Stephens College Okoboji Summer Theatre, a professional summer stock theatre company.
  • Students begin preparing for the realities of the business from their first semester. They are offered personalized feedback about their audition process and preparation for their next step.  

Preparation 

  • Students have significant opportunities to audition and perform. During the academic year, students audition for all Playhouse Theatre Company (mainstage) productions as well as for those produced by our student-run Warehouse Theatre Company. 
  • Our professional summer stock theatre company, Okoboji Summer Theatre, stages nine mainstage productions and four children’s theatre productions every summer. 

Application Process 

An audition is required for the B.F.A. in Acting program. Learn about the audition process. Please note that all applicants interested in the B.F.A. in Acting must first apply to Stephens College using our free Stephens College application or the Common App. Students must apply to the College BEFORE submitting an audition or portfolio.
