Theatre Arts

Students studying theatre learn from experienced faculty and professional actors in a master-apprentice environment as part of our top-ranked School of Performing Arts. Our theatre program is ranked #6 in the country by The Princeton Review.

Emphasis Areas 

Our B.F.A programs are 3 years/2 summers and include emphasis areas in:

  • Acting
  • Directing
  • Musical Theatre
  • Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) 
  • Stage Management
  • Scenic, Costume and Lighting Design 

We also offer a B.A. in Theatre Arts (4-year degree).

Immersive Opportunities 

At Stephens, you'll gain a deep understanding of everything that goes into a theatrical production. Year-round performance opportunities allow you to grow creatively in a positive, nurturing environment.

  • Enjoy numerous opportunities to perform alongside professional guest artists in the Macklanburg Playhouse Company.
  • Learn the ins-and-outs of producing an entire show as part of the student-run Warehouse Theatre Company.
  • Spend your first summer learning skills from guest artists in our Summer Theatre Institute.
  • Gain professional experience your second summer at Okoboji Summer Theatre, our stock theatre company in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
  • Learn about the art and business of children’s theatre through the TRYPS Institute at Stephens College—a popular children’s theatre company located on campus—as well as 'Boji Bantam, our summer children's theatre
