Four students from the Stephens Conservatory for the Performing Arts attended the Region 5 for Festival 56 in Des Moines, Iowa, January 16-21.

For over 50 years, the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) has supported and celebrated all things theatre at colleges and universities across the country. From January 16-21, four students from the Stephens Conservatory for the Performing Arts joined them in celebrating the innovation, creativity and artistry of Region 5 for Festival 56 in Des Moines, Iowa.

At the festival, second-year musical theatre major Devin Michael Leming was selected as an MTI Dance Finalist and Carly Cramer as an MTI Singing Finalist.

Devin Michael Leming, Carly Cramer, and Kaley Sikora placed in the finals and semi-finals.

“My overall take-away from it was to expect the unexpected to be prepared for ANYTHING at all times,” Leming shared. “‘Someone is always watching,’ as my dance professor would say to me, and he couldn't be more right. Someone IS always watching - so it's important to keep your professionalism polished while in the room with casting directors but to also showcase how diligent you can be in your down time outside of the room.”

Second-year musical theatre student Kaley Sikora was also selected as an MTI Singing Semifinalist.

“My favorite part of the festival was being able to work and collaborate with other theatre artists across the country,” Sikora said.
