Faith Decker | Elementary Education '26

Why Stephens?

The laboratory private school (The Children’s School at Stephens College) on campus is what made me choose Stephens, along with the opportunity to immediately jump into teaching kids with our practicum classes.

Why Education?

I chose education because I loved my teachers so much and I wanted to be like them. I hated school until I met teachers who truly cared about me and my education. I want to be that teacher for other students.

How is Stephens College helping you to achieve your goals?

I am on track for teaching elementary education, but I think I would like to continue and get my masters, which Stephens will be offering and I’m very excited.

What does being a Student Ambassador mean to you?

Being a Student Ambassador, to me, is all about being a spokesperson for Stephens and trying my best to accurately portray Stephens and what it is like to go here. I do it because I think it is a good learning experience for myself and a way to reflect on my time here, as well as being able to show off my knowledge of campus! I enjoy meeting new people and showing them my home, most of all.

KaLynn Irey | Psychology '26

Why Stephens?

I chose Stephens because I thought it was the best fit for me to pursue my academic and athletic career. I loved the environment as a women’s college and the opportunity to play basketball collegiately.

Why Psychology?

I chose psychology because it has always been an interesting topic to me and there are multiple career options that I can choose from.

How is Stephens College helping you to achieve your goals?

I would love to play basketball all 4 years here at Stephens and graduate with a 3.5+ GPA. I would love to study abroad and eventually obtain a master’s degree in counseling. Embracing the 10 ideals has helped me to become a better student and individual, and my experience here so far has already opened many doors for me.

What does being a Student Ambassador mean to you?

To me, being a Student Ambassador means I not only get to be a leader and be a voice for my peers, but I am also able to learn and grow as an individual. I am a Student Ambassador because I value the chance to represent Stephen’s, my basketball team, and the opportunity to enhance my leadership skills. I enjoy giving newcomers their tours the most because I get to meet new people and hopefully leave a positive impact on the families and future Stars I encounter.

Why Stephens?

On one of my visits, I got the opportunity to meet the students and teachers at The Children’s School on campus and I fell in love with the environment. My favorite part was how soon Education students are able to begin working in the classrooms.

Why Education?

Teachers have the opportunity to impact their students in so many ways. I want to make a positive difference in the lives of children and be the teacher I wish I had when I was growing up.

How is Stephens College helping you to achieve your goals?

Starting my first semester, I was able to gain hands-on practical experience by observing and teaching in The Children’s School which is the perfect preparation for being a teacher.

What does being a Student Ambassador mean to you?

Being a Student Ambassador is about representing Stephens College in an open and authentic way. I love being able to connect with prospective students, answer questions, and share my experience as a Stephens student.

Kiley Smetzer | Nursing '26

Why Stephens?

I chose Stephens because of the accelerated Nursing Program, the student to teacher ratio, and the community that is built into Stephens College. A great aspect of Stephens are the opportunities to immerse yourself not only in the classroom, but in clubs and other activities too!

Why Nursing?

I have always dreamt of working in the medical field so I could help people. Helping people in need is in my nature. Becoming a nurse will not only allow me to help people by treating and caring for them, but it will also allow me to advocate for them and show them compassion and empathy.

How is Stephens College helping you to achieve your goals?

Attending Stephens College is the key to success in my future. Stephens College offers immersive learning. Professors and peers at Stephens College are personable. I truly believe that Stephens College is the best place to earn a higher education and one that is valued by course instructors.

To me being a student ambassador means being a personable, approachable resource to fellow peers and incoming students. Being a student ambassador allows me to be actively involved in the Stephens College community. My favorite role as a student ambassador is giving campus tours. Campus Tours allow me to meet new people and show off our beautiful, historic campus.

Kate Stevens | Communication Design '25

Why Stephens?

College was never something I thought I would pursue, but when I was a senior in high school, my mom asked me to take a tour of Stephens. The moment I stepped on campus, I felt like I was at home. It was an experience that had never happened to me before. I looked around and saw my future right in front of me.

Why Comm Design?

I've always loved design, and when I found out that Stephens offered Communication Design, it all just fell into place.

How is Stephens College helping you to achieve your goals?

In the future, I hope to work in a marketing agency as a designer or an account director. Stephens offers a class called Creative Ink, which is a student-run marketing agency. In that class, we work with real-world clients, and it has helped me build my portfolio significantly. Stephens has done this and more to help prepare me for my future.

What does being a Student Ambassador mean to you?

To be a Student Ambassador is to represent Stephens as a whole. Since my freshman year, I've wanted to help grow the Stephens family. So when I was asked to be an Ambassador, I was very happy. I love not only getting to show others just how unique we are but also meeting prospective students.
