Students will bring the Great American Songbook to life on the Stephens College stage Oct. 25-27. Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Macklanburg Playhouse, 100 Willis Ave. Columbia, MO 65201.

The Stephens College M.F.A. in Television and Screenwriting, established in 2014, has named Dr. Rosanne Welch as the new executive director. Program founder and former director Ken LaZebnik will serve as Writer-in-Residence, while Khanisha Foster ’17, a graduate of the M.F.A. program, will serve as associate director. The program also features 15 faculty mentors and a rotating group of guest lecturers, all working writers, members of the Writers Guild and successful industry professionals.

Stephens College theatre students had the unique opportunity to work with Broadway actor Jennifer Hemphill for the Playhouse Company production of “Mamma Mia!” in September. Hemphill, who is an assistant professor of musical theatre and coordinator of musical theatre at Stephens, directed, choreographed and acted in the hit musical.

Katelyn Rush ’17 is a Jefferson City, Missouri, native, a Westminster College softball coach and a fifth-grade teacher. This fall, she began her third year at East Elementary with a new moniker: Railton New Professional of the Year. Open to any Jefferson City School District educator in her first three years of teaching, the award is funded by the trust of Mrs. Billie Railton and presented to 10 teachers per year by the Jefferson City Public Schools Foundation.

The Stephens College School of Design will host Brandon Maxwell, an American fashion designer, television personality, director and photographer, as the next speaker in the Jeannene Booher Fashion Lecture Series. The presentation begins at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Kimball Ballroom of Lela Raney Wood Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The Fall 2018 issue of Stephens Life has been recognized by the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) for having some of the best designs among collegiate publications in the United States and Canada this year. The magazine as a whole was named one of 24 Pacemaker finalists in the feature/general interest division.

The Stephens College Costume Museum and Research Library presents its fall 2019 exhibit, “Suffrage: What’s Fashion Got To Do With It?,” on Saturday, Aug. 24 through Dec. 13 at the Historic Costume Gallery, mezzanine of Lela Raney Wood Hall. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

KANSAS CITY - For the 10th-consecutive year, Stephens has been named a NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Institution, the national office announced Tuesday. The Stars earned 89 points and a silver-level distinction for the third-consecutive year.
