The Stephens College Costume Museum and Research Library presents its fall 2019 exhibit, “Suffrage: What’s Fashion Got To Do With It?,” on Saturday, Aug. 24 through Dec. 13 at the Historic Costume Gallery, mezzanine of Lela Raney Wood Hall. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Alyssa Tinker will enter her first season as head esports coach for Stephens College this fall, taking over the team founded in 2017 as the first varsity esports team at a women’s college.

This morning, the Stephens College Entering Class of 2019 moved into their residence halls with the assistance of returning students, faculty and staff. Students also started getting acclimated to campus at a “Navigate Your Way” informational event that included tables staffed by the Student Success Center, Financial Aid, Study Abroad and more.

On Aug. 15, Stephens College dedicated its archives in the name of Dr. Alan R. Havig in recognition of his deep commitment and extraordinary contributions to the College. Dr. Havig taught history and social sciences for over 40 years, and upon his retirement in 2005, he volunteered countless hours as the College archivist.

On Aug. 12, Stephens College welcomed to campus 41 student-athletes from three sports (cross country, soccer and volleyball). Stars coaches and returning student-athletes helped 21 newcomers move in to the residence halls ahead of the start of preseason camps. New Student Move-In Day is Aug. 16, which is followed by three more days of orientation. Returning students arrive on campus on Aug. 18 with classes beginning on Aug. 20.

This month, the Stephens College School of Design — ranked among the best fashion schools in the world, according to The Business of Fashion, London — hosted two weeklong fashion summer camps for young fashion enthusiasts.

For two weeks in June, young riders converged on the Stephens College Equestrian Center, one of Columbia’s notable historic properties, for the College’s annual Summer Riding program. Campers learned the basics of riding, horse care and safety from Stephens equestrian program faculty with assistance from current students.
