Stephens College Equestrian student awarded $10,000 scholarship by Saddlebred, Equestrian associations and industry pioneer Sally Jackson

Stephens College and equine industry trailblazer Sally Jackson are proud to name the winner of the 2023 United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) and American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association (ASHBA) Performance Rider/Driver Scholarship. Ellie Stevens has received the $10,000 Stephens College scholarship, as announced recently at the Lexington Junior League Charity Horse Show in Lexington, Kentucky.

Ellie is a recent graduate of Lexington Catholic High School. Now a freshman at Stephens College, she is majoring in Integrated Human Biology with a minor in Equestrian Studies.

At an early age, she started riding lessons and knew horses would always be a part of her life. She looks forward to attending a college where she can combine her love of horses and getting a quality education. Of choosing Stephens, Ellie says, “The decision was easy. Stephens College has everything I had wished for, from being able to ride to being able to pursue a degree as a Physician Assistant all at the same school. I was set and couldn’t ask for more.”

Scholarship sponsor Sally Jackson shared, “It was clear from Ellie’s video application that she has a passion for horses. I am thrilled to present Ms. Stevens with this scholarship and look forward to what the future holds for this bright young lady.”

MORE ABOUT THE STEPHENS COLLEGE EQUESTRIAN PROGRAM AND SCHOLARSHIP

Stephens College is one of only three Missouri colleges and universities that offers B.S. degrees in equine-related studies. Immersive, hands-on learning from Day 1, an extensive and engaged alumni network, and small class sizes set the program apart. The Stephens equestrian program is well-regarded in the equine industry.

In 2022, Sally Jackson generously created the Stephens College equine studies scholarship program, offering—not just one but—two scholarships open to high school juniors and seniors who wish to take part in equestrian activities while advancing their education at Stephens College.
