Stephens College is proud to announce that first-year student Jubilee Forbess was recently awarded the prestigious Cooke Foundation Scholarship for her excellence in academics and promising scholarly contributions.

The Cooke College Scholarship Program is available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities.

Jubilee comes to Stephens from Jessieville, Arkansas, though she was born in Colorado and lived in Bolivia for seven years. With a passion for poetry and short stories, Jubilee is majoring in creative writing and is interested in both editing and publishing. She currently works on the Stephens College student-led literary magazine, Harbinger

Since arriving at Stephens in August, Jubilee has already made several exciting contributions on campus. “Jubilee Forbess brings a fresh and interesting perspective to literary publishing. I am excited to work with her on Harbinger,” says Kris Somerville, Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing.

When asked why she ultimately chose Stephens College, Jubilee shares, “I had chosen to go to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before looking into Stephens. But Stephens actually checked more boxes than SAIC. Plus, Chicago seemed like a really big jump from Jessieville, Arkansas!”

Even before choosing to attend Stephens, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation was a large part of Jubilee’s education, supporting her along the way. “The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has helped me all throughout high school and now through college by giving me resources to get to where I am today and where I hope to be,” she said.
