It’s Move-In Day at Stephens College! We talked to students (and an alum!) and found out why they chose Stephens.
Ellie Stevens
Home state: Kentucky
Major: Integrative Human Biology, with a minor in Equine Science
Why Stephens: “I know people back home who went to school here, and I love that it has a PA (Physician Assistant) school and Equestrian program. I also love that I can bring my dog, Winston!”
Syderah Farmer
Home state: Wisconsin
Major: Health Science
Why Stephens: “I wanted to play basketball where I am wanted and where I’ll get playing time. Then when I visited campus, it felt comfortable.”
Sara Wagner
Home state: Missouri
Major: Fashion Design and Product Development
Why Stephens: “There are only a few schools with fashion design, and Stephens is rated in the top 10 in the country. I really appreciate the atmosphere of women supporting women. It is a great place to be supported.”
Mia Morel
Home state: Wisconsin
Major: Psychology
Why Stephens: “I liked how the basketball coaches were – it felt like family.”
Izzy Porzillo
Home state: Maryland
Major: Costume Design
Why Stephens: “The Conservatory offers a great costume design program.”
Quinten Loveland
Home state: Idaho
Major: Musical Theater
Why Stephens: “I am transferring from Western Wyoming Community College because my theatre professor knows Dean Jenn Hemphill and highly recommended the Conservatory.”
Zack Anderson (shown below, left)
Home state: Wyoming
Major: Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies
Why Stephens: “The Conservatory has everything I wanted, and it felt easy to transfer. I’m looking forward to studying theatre and lighting design and being here with friends from my community college.”
Maddi Curtis (pictured above, right)
Home state: Wyoming
Major: Pre-Veterinary
Why Stephens: “I really like it here and I love that I can bring my cats, Catniss and Sugar. Other schools in the area had weird vibes.”
Mackenzie Bergman
Home state: North Carolina
Major: Equestrian Studies
Why Stephens: "I felt comfortable on campus immediately, and I felt a personal connection with everyone I talked to during the admissions process. Everyone I talked to wanted me to succeed, so I didn’t feel like just another number like I did at other colleges I visited. I love that I can have my dog, Sammy, stay with me in my dorm room. Today’s his birthday, and it’s not just my day to move in, but his day too! This is all new for both of us!”
Betsy Baker-Rall ‘76
Home state: Missouri
Major: Education
Why Stephens: “I was a non-traditional student because I was married and had a child. Other colleges at that time weren’t accommodating, but Stephens was. I was able to earn my degree and worked in the Columbia Public Schools for 32 years. When you graduate from a college that supported you, you want to give back. So, I do that any way I can.”
