Nyla Handy, creator, designer, and CEO of Nyla Couture, has been named Best Designer at the LA Fashion Week Fashion Show.
A proud Black-owned business, NYLA Couture is a luxury boutique that specializes in formal, prom, bridal, and special occasion garments...and high style.
Stephens College Fashion alumna Nyla Handy is the creator and designer -- as well as the founder and CEO -- behind NYLA Couture. She is currently in LA showing her latest line at Los Angeles Fashion Week, where she received the coveted "Best Designer" award.
Hailing from humble Missouri, how did she rise to such ranks? With a lot of grit, determination, embodying her personal power, and, of course, loads of flair.
In a recent article from VoyageKC that named her a 'hidden gem', Nyla shared, "It all started when I was a little girl -- my mother told me that I always wanted to dress. As I grew older, the feeling for fashion grew stronger and I began to dress others as a fashion designer. My late grandmother, Joyce Lee Webb (who was also a well-known fashion designer in her community) showed me the ropes on my first sewing machine."
She also gives a shout-out to Stephens, saying, "In 2012, I graduated from the prestigious women’s college, Stephens College in Columbia, MO, with my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design and Product Development. Faith, family, and education are the foundation that leads me to be the woman I am today."
Well done, Nyla!
