The Stephens College Stars recently added a new Sports Information Director to their talent pool, Robyn Griffin. Let's get to know her!

Introduce yourself, tell us your sports background, and how you got to Stephens College.

I went to college at Indiana University – Northwest (IUN) and got my Bachelor of General Studies, and I obtained my Masters of Sports Management from the University of Indianapolis (UINDY). I played volleyball for 10 years, with 4 of those years being on scholarship at IUN, and I also played golf for 2 years, and showcased in a single soccer game. I have coached volleyball for 3 years.

I got to Stephens when I was looking around in the NAIA market and came across the Stephens post looking for a Sports Information Director.

Why Stephens?

I felt like it was a start to my long-term career at a smaller school to get my feet wet.

What are you looking forward to this year?

Turning this program around for game days. With my extensive training I had received during my time at IUN from my mentor, Anna Villanueva, I have full faith in myself for making a name for this program and myself.

What is your motivation or inspiration to work in athletics?

I have always had a thought of where I would be when I stopped playing volleyball. It wasn’t until I realized that I was able to fully make a career out of it in the end being involved with all sports. During my bachelor’s ceremony, I heard my father say to my mother, “I never knew she could make a career out of doing what she loves, and I love that for her.”

I also want to make a difference for the women in the field as the sports industry is male dominated. We are a small inkling in a big ocean, and we can make a difference bringing our own insight into game days. Like my mentor, I hope to make a difference within a student’s life whether it be in the sports industry or their own life.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

I do not necessarily have a favorite athlete. However, I have a favorite team and it is always the home teams of Chicago – Bears, Cubs, Sox, Blackhawks, Bulls.
