Esports at Stephens

Stephens College is proud to be home to the first varsity collegiate all-women’s esports team.

Stephens College is a member of the National Association of Collegiate eSports (NACE), which includes 90 percent of varsity collegiate esports in the country.

Esports is quickly on its way to becoming a billion-dollar industry, and we believe women should have the same opportunities as men to succeed in this emerging business. Stephens’ mission across all our programs has been to ensure women have a seat at any table. Getting involved in esports is part of that long-standing tradition, and aligns with our mission to promote teamwork, communication skills, as well as more interest in the science and technology fields for women.

First season begins for sports at Stephens

October is esports month at Stephens College, and the games begin today with a match against Georgia Southern University.

The competition in Overwatch will be aired at 6 p.m. on the big TV in the Student Union of Stamper Common. The event kicks off a month of events. The campus community is invited to watch at 6 p.m. each Monday. You can also tune in at Twitch.tv/stephens_college_esports

“Our players can’t wait to get started,” said Coach Ernest Utterback. “They have been working hard to prepare for this match.”

Stephens College made history in April when it became the first women’s college to sponsor a varsity esports program. Tryouts were held this fall, and a team of 12 players, ranging from freshman to senior, was selected.

Stephens is a member of the National Association of Collegiate eSports (NACE), which includes 90 percent of varsity collegiate esports in the country.
