Study Abroad Scholarships
From Affiliate Programs
Stephens College works with several programs to ensure quality programming and safety while our students study abroad. These affiliates also offer scholarship. Scholarships vary in amount and qualifiers. They also have varied application deadlines. Students seeking scholarships can review the following websites and should be making applications a year prior to studying abroad.
- Boren Scholarship
The Boren Scholarship provides up to $20,000 to US undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to US interests and are underrepresented in study abroad programming. There are also Boren Scholarships for US graduate students.
- Fulbright Program

- The Davies-Jackson Scholarship
Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich educational environment of St. John’s College, which was founded in the 16th century, by reading in one of the following subjects: Classics; Economics; Education; English; Geography; History; History of Art; Human, Social and Political Sciences (HSPS includes politics, international relations, sociology, anthropology and archaeology); Modern and Medieval Languages; Music; Philosophy; or Psychological and Behavioral Sciences.
- Sara Herrnstadt Crosby ’76 and Daniel Crosby Scholarship, in memory of Jean Muir and Howard Ashley
This scholarship is available to all majors and offered to second semester sophomores, juniors and seniors. This scholarship is for $2,200.00 (1) and is awarded annually. More information about the scholarship can be found in the Financial Aid Office or here. It is due to Financial Aid in October (check application for deadline dates). This scholarship (1) can be used for summer or semester.
- Foundation for Global Scholars
The Foundation for Global Scholars is a non-profit organization located in Denver, Colorado whose mission is to create global citizens and leaders by assisting students in achieving their personal and professional goals of obtaining cultural and academic experiences abroad. The Foundation will support this mission by awarding scholarships to help enable students to obtain an international experience. Students who are from underrepresented populations in international education are a priority.
Fund for International Service Learning
Fund for International Service Learning provides scholarships to students enrolled in an international service-learning program.
Go Overseas awards one $500 scholarship to a student studying abroad through a photo essay contest.
Generation Study Abroad Excellence and Travel Awards
The New Zealand Government, Go Overseas and STA Travel have partnered together to offer a FULL tuition scholarship & round-trip flight to study abroad in New Zealand in 2016.
Hispanic College Fund
The Hispanic College Fund reaches out to Latino college students in need.
The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF)
The National Italian American Foundation awards scholarships and grants to outstanding Italian-American students on the basis of academic merit.
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants
Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad.
Ambassadorial scholarships offered through local Rotary clubs.
- Tortuga Backpacks Study Abroad Scholarship
Tortuga Backpacks offer a $1,000 study abroad scholarship and one travel backpack. Two scholarships are offered each year, one for the spring semester and one for the fall semester.
- US-Japan Bridging Foundation Scholarships
The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan, assisting with the travel and living expenses students will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year.
