Stephens College will host its second annual Experience Stephens: Dance event, which will allow prospective students to hone their craft in free master classes while exploring all that the College has to offer. The daylong event, which will be held on March 2, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Participants will experience master classes in ballet, modern, tap and musical theatre led by celebrated Broadway artists Carol Schuberg and Darren Gibson. Stars Athletics Dance Coach Amanda Abbe will lead a master class in competitive dance. The event will include a meet-and-greet with the Dean, faculty and students as well as student-led tours of campus and performing arts facilities. Scholarship auditions will also be offered, and participants will have the opportunity to meet with financial aid and learn about the admission process.
Schuberg, a seasoned educator and Broadway performer, is in her second year at Stephens as a guest artist. She is teaching dance classes at Stephens this semester and will direct the spring production of Pippin in the Macklanburg Playhouse. Last year, Schuberg choreographed Anything Goes.
Gibson is serving as the artistic director for this year’s annual dance concert (which will be held from Jan. 24-27). He also taught fall dance classes as a guest artist at Stephens. Gibson, who grew up in New York where Eliot Feld discovered him, is a former artistic director for TexARTS Academy and the TexARTS Broadway Company in Austin, Texas.
Stephens offers a three-year, two-summer B.F.A. in Dance program as well as a professional conservatory training program that is available to women and men. Visit Dance page for more info.
The event is co-hosted by the Stephens College Dance program, which is part of the School of Creative and Performing Arts, and the Office of Admissions.
