Stephens students took top placements in the musical theatre divisions when Stephens College hosted the Mid-Missouri NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competition this spring.

The Mid-Missouri NATS Voice competition is attended by many area singers, voice teachers and pianists from throughout central Missouri. The event was held on April 6 in Historic Senior Hall.

Stephens College took four of the six top placements in the musical theatre divisions of the competition.

Lower Undergraduate Music Theater Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano/Contralto
Shawnee Fierros Casas Richberger - Second Place (tie)
Ella Witt - Third Place

Upper Undergraduate Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano/Contralto Music Theater
Natalie Botkins - Second Place
Mackenna Morrow - Third Place (tie)

Assistant Professor Trent Rash served as the NATS auditions coordinator.

This was the second year for the competition. Last year, eight Stephens students took top placements: Catera Combs, David Hall, Lauren Harmon, Lilli Javorka, Sicily Mathenia, Hope Pena, Delaney Philips and Sydney Sutherland.

Also this spring, The Velvetones, the College's a cappella group, performed at the Columbia Boonslick Concert at the First Baptist Church in downtown Columbia. This concert included a quartet competition that the members of The Velvetones won by audience vote. The Velvetones are students of Associate Professor Pamela Ellsworth-Smith.
