On Aug. 26, Stephens College hosted a suffragette sash party in celebration of Women’s Equality Day, which marks the anniversary of the day that women in the U.S. were granted the right to vote (suffrage) and hold office at the national level.
Stephens students, faculty and staff made their own sashes as a personal keepsake of 100 Years of Votes for Women. During the Suffrage Movement, advocates for suffrage wore sashes at public rallies, parades and street speaking events.
The event kicked off a yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage.
