Stephens College student Olivia Catt ’20 recently received a $1,000 fashion merchandising/marketing/management scholarship from the Fashion Group International of Saint Louis. She and her fellow scholarship recipients presented their work at a style and scholarship event on Nov. 27 in St. Louis.

Catt, a fashion marketing and management student, plans to use her scholarship funds to participate in a summer internship program in Marseille, France, next summer. Her resume already boasts an internship at the St. Louis-based fashion label AUDRA, where she gained real-world experience in business and marketing, as well as the product development side of the fashion industry.

As part of the scholarship application, she was required to submit three fashion projects and an essay describing them. Catt’s submission comprised four variations of a take-away item for a trunk show that she designed as a marketing intern at AUDRA; and two class assignments: a poster design for The Collections student designer fashion show at Stephens, and a fashion tie-in collection of six garments inspired by the musical West Side Story.

Although Catt’s plans for after graduation are uncertain, she aspires to work for a small to mid-sized fashion/apparel company valuing sustainability and ethical business practices.

“The small business realm is particularly interesting to me as it allows for more opportunities in all sides of the company — not just limited to marketing,” she said. “A dream employer of mine would be a company like Everlane as it is an up and-coming brand that prides itself on ethical business practices and sustainability, which are values that I share.”
