Marlena Thompson ’18 recently received the Critics Award for Entrepreneurial Spirit for the presentation of her publication, Ninalem, at 1 Million Cups of Columbia, founded by the Kauffman Foundation. The weekly event provides entrepreneurs an opportunity to share their business ideas and seek advice and support from the local community.
Thompson’s magazine is “a biannual, literary arts, and fashion publication that aims to increase representation for black youth by allowing black writers and creatives to take control of their narrative.” Visit her website.
Since 2016, Thompson is the sixth student in the School of Design to have been selected to present her work in the community space.
Thompson will earn her B.F.A. in Fashion Communication from Stephens College in May.
