Broadway actor Jennifer Hemphill has joined the Stephens College faculty this fall as assistant professor of musical theatre and chair of the musical theatre program. She will direct, choreograph and star in Stephens’ production of the hit ABBA show “Mamma Mia!” in September. Tickets are on sale starting today, Aug. 30.

“We are delighted to have Jennifer on our faculty to inspire our next generation of stars,” said Dr. Gail Humphries Mardirosian, dean of the School of Creative and Performing Arts. “She is a consummate teacher, performer and director.”

For three years, Hemphill performed “Mamma Mia!” on Broadway at the Winter Garden and Broadhurst theatres, and for two years on the national tour. For the last two decades, Hemphill has performed in New York, on tours across Europe, with symphonies and at sea.

“I am excited to uphold the prestigious traditions of Stephens College while offering progressive training for an ever-changing performing industry,” Hemphill said.

In addition to acting, she has taught master classes and private lessons, and was on staff at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. She also enjoys adjudicating for Showstopper national dance competitions.

A proud member of the Actors’ Equity Association, Hemphill holds a B.F.A. from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and an M.F.A. from Kent State University.
