The Stephens College M.F.A. in Television and Screenwriting, established in 2014, has named Dr. Rosanne Welch as the new executive director. Program founder and former director Ken LaZebnik will serve as Writer-in-Residence, while Khanisha Foster ’17, a graduate of the M.F.A. program, will serve as associate director. The program also features 15 faculty mentors and a rotating group of guest lecturers, all working writers, members of the Writers Guild and successful industry professionals.

The Stephens College School of Design will host Brandon Maxwell, an American fashion designer, television personality, director and photographer, as the next speaker in the Jeannene Booher Fashion Lecture Series. The presentation begins at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Kimball Ballroom of Lela Raney Wood Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The Stephens College Costume Museum and Research Library presents its fall 2019 exhibit, “Suffrage: What’s Fashion Got To Do With It?,” on Saturday, Aug. 24 through Dec. 13 at the Historic Costume Gallery, mezzanine of Lela Raney Wood Hall. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

For the second year in a row, Stephens College has been named a national College of Distinction based on its engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes. The Center for Career and Professional Development received express recognition, and new in 2019, the Education program was specially honored for its innovative curriculum and investment in experiential learning.

Sony Pictures visual effects producer Michaela Dehning ’08 will return to Stephens next week as a guest of the Citizen Jane Masterclass series. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Charter Lecture Hall in Helis Communication Center on the Stephens College campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Susan L. Foster ’06 B.S., ’10 M.B.A. joined the Stephens faculty this fall as Health Information Management Director. Foster has worked for more than 25 years in health informatics and information management and higher education, serving as director of health information management at Missouri Western State University and Crowder College. She also is a Registered Health Information Administrator, is certified in healthcare privacy and security and has experience as a privacy officer.

The Stephens College community came together on Thursday, Aug. 29, for Academic Opening Convocation in Lela Raney Wood Hall. Stephens marked the beginning of a new academic year by looking back on her history and contemplating the Ten Ideals through the perspectives of 10 students, alumnae, faculty and staff who were selected to relate stories about each Ideal.
