Stephens student filmmakers take top awards as women sweep “Gimme Truth!” competition at True/False Film Festival

Freshman digital filmmaking student Rosey Howell ’23 (pictured right) took first place in “Gimme Truth!,” a game show style competition hosted by Brian Babylon and judged by documentary film world celebrities. Howell’s classmate, freshman Hope Daugherty ’23 (pictured left) took third place, while Columbia film director Pat Holt took second place, making for a sweep by women filmmakers.

The films of two first-year Stephens College students, Rosey Howell ’23 (pictured left) and Hope Daugherty ’23 (pictured right) will be featured in this Saturday’s True/False Gimme Truth! film competition at the international True/False Film Festival in Columbia. The popular annual event, which is sold out at the Blue Note, is billed by the festival as “America’s favorite documentary game show.” Gimme Truth! challenges the festival audience and a panel of contestants to determine the “truthiness” of two-minute documentaries. Films must be entirely true or entirely false.

Stephens College is proud to announce for the second year in a row all graduates of the Master of Physician Assistant Studies received a first-time 100% pass rate on the National Certifying Exam. Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (Region 5) is currently holding their annual festival and Stephens students are performing exceedingly well, according to Musical Theatre Program Chair Jennifer Hemphill. She and her students are currently at Festival 52 for the region, which includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
