College reorganizes into three schools

August 11, 2017

Stephens College has reorganized its majors this academic year into three schools, each focused on providing students with the best learning environment and opportunities.

“The reorganization does not affect programs, curriculum or faculty,” said Leslie Wiley, vice president of Academic Affairs. “The change is at the leadership and administration level.

“Stephens College administrators, deans and faculty members are always looking for opportunities to serve students better.

Students in the School of Design, led by Dean Monica McMurry, will experience no changes. The School was formed recently through the merger of School of Fashion and Design and the School of Organizational Leadership and Strategic Communication, and is focused on cultivating creative leaders who will thrive in human-centered, market-driven careers.

The School of Health Sciences, led by Dean Susan Muller, will now include the equestrian studies program, the psychology program, human development and the master of education in counseling. These programs will join a school focused on the growing and diverse health sciences industry.

The School of Performing Arts, led by Dean Gail Humphries Mardirosian, will welcome undergraduate programs in English and creative writing, education and digital filmmaking along with the master’s degree in TV and screenwriting. To reflect these changes, the school will also introduce a more comprehensive name: School of Creative and Performing Arts.

“We look forward to rolling out these changes with the new school year and to seeing everything that our amazing schools will accomplish in the 2017-18 school year  - and beyond,” Willey said.
