What started as an administrative assistant internship has turned into a paying job as a communication specialist at Kansas City Fashion Week for Junior Taylor Barber.
Through September, Barber will be working remotely on the organization’s website and blog and assisting with social media as needed.
The position is a perfect fit for the fashion communication major.
“It’s the ideal position while I’m still in school,” she said. “Plus, I’m working with people I genuinely adore—that’s priceless. I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot.”
During her internship this summer, Barber assisted with model casting and helped keep the website updated. Working behind the scenes for the fashion week event solidified everything she’s learned at Stephens, she said.
Additionally, Barber is involved in Rightfully Sewn of Kansas City, a new organization committed to making ethically responsible clothing in the community while providing jobs for at-risk women.
This summer, she also helped out at a resale shop.
After graduating in 2017, Barber plans to remain in Kansas City, where she sees growth and interest in a growing fashion market. She’s confident she’s on the right track, working with industry leaders in that area.
“I’m 20 and I feel like I’m already making a name for myself.”
