Stephens brings couture classics to the SLAM's 2025 "Roaring" exhibition.
The Stephens College Costume Museum and Research Library (CMRL) will showcase six exquisite ensembles at the Saint Louis Art Museum's (SLAM) upcoming spring exhibition, Roaring: Art, Fashion, and the Automobile in France, 1918-1939. This exhibition, running from April 11 to July 27, 2025, will explore the cultural intersections of art, fashion, and the burgeoning automotive industry in interwar France.
The featured garments from the CMRL, representing iconic design houses like Lanvin, Chanel, and LeLong, were carefully selected through a collaboration between Saint Louis Art Museum curators and Dr. Monica McMurry, Fashion Professor at Stephens, utilizing the CMRL archives. The exhibition promises to highlight the elegance and innovation of French fashion during a dynamic period in history.
