Rachel Ives '22, B.F.A. Musical Theatre, won a scholarship to the Open Jar Institute in New York City to train in summer 2021. Ives competed for the scholarship at the Region V Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in January.
Several of her fellow students in the Stephens College Musical Theatre program made it to the semi-final round of the Musical Theatre Intensive Competition: Kaitlyn Grace Smith '23, Hannah Breshears '21, Shanti Clark '21, Sophie Sarnacki '22, Allison Belsan '22, Raegan Grisolano '23 and Ella Witt '21.
"Auditioning for KCACTF was definitely a process," Ives said. "There are multiple rounds, so the other students and I had to make sure we submitted our self-tape videos as soon as possible. Jennifer Hemphill [assistant professor and chair of Musical Theatre and Acting] helped each of us separately while filming, and gave us live feedback in order to make sure we were doing the best work that we could."
"Rachel is an excellent student and will thrive at the Open Jar Intensive," Hemphill said. "I am thrilled that she will have the opportunity to work with so many Broadway veterans and industry professionals. The learning opportunities will be limitless and invaluable.”
