"Loading the truck to 'Boji" is just what it sounds like... It's a lot of work and a lot of fun.
On a sunny Friday morning, just hours before some were set to grace the stage one last time at their graduation, Conservatory for the Performing Arts students were smiling, sweating, and loading the truck to 'Boji.
It's just what it sounds like. An annual tradition, performing arts students and faculty alike rally to get a semi-truck loaded with everything needed for a successful summer theater program. From couches to clothes, props to lighting, it all goes into the truck. "Loading the truck" acts almost as an unofficial kickoff to the summer season.
This year marks Season 66 at Okoboji.
Affectionately known as 'Boji, Okoboji is a summer theater facility located in Okoboji, Iowa, owned by Stephens College. All Stephens theater students are required to do a rotation at 'Boji, and for many, this is a favorite memory of their time here. Learning the ropes alongside professionals and even their own professors on and off the stage, students get to act, sing, dance, produce and more.
"It was probably one of the best experiences of my life," said graduating senior Sutton Dycus, a Musical Theater major. "Anyone who's gone will tell you that you think about it for the rest of your life. It's so rewarding, and very fun, and very hard at times. But you're so glad that you did it, once it's over."
Okoboji Season 66 opens June 25, 2024, with "Leader of the Pack: The Ellie Greenwich Musical".
