Dean of the Conservatory for the Performing Arts and Distinguished Faculty Honoree

Broadway actress Jennifer Hemphill teaches all levels of Acting and Musical Theatre, and directs and acts in various productions.

Prior to joining Stephens, Hemphill was most recently on Broadway in "Mamma Mia!" She enjoyed three years of performing the hit ABBA show at the Winter Garden and Broadhurst theaters on Broadway and two years playing to full houses on the national tour.

At Stephens, Hemphill directed and starred in two Stephens College productions of "Mamma Mia!" — providing students with the opportunity to work alongside a Broadway caliber actress. But Hemphill always has her focus on her students — so much so that she was recently named Distinguished Faculty of the Year at Honors Convocation.

Every rehearsal with Jenn is like a master class. She is so passionate about helping young artists and she helped me so much."
Natalie Irlmeier ’20

Hemphill earned her M.F.A. at Kent State University and her B.F.A. at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She has performed in New York, on tours across the U.S. and Canada, in Europe, with symphonies, and at sea for the last two decades. She enjoys adjudicating for Showstopper national dance competitions and is a proud member of the Actors’ Equity Association.

Her academic focus is on preparing actors for the industry through solid technique and practical application.

The caliber of students in the Acting and Musical Theatre programs at Stephens is outstanding. The actors are passionate and dedicated to their craft. They are truly a joy to work with."
