Fun Home

(Performing Arts - Theatre)

Time: 7:30 p.m., Sept. 21-22; 2 p.m., Sept. 23
Location: Macklanburg Playhouse

By Lisa Kron & Jeanine Tesori

Contemporary | PG-13 for strong language & adult themes

Contemporary musical theater to provoke thought. Based on Alison Bechdel’s 2006 graphic memoir of the same name. When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires.

Location: Macklanburg Playhouse

By Adam Szymkowicz

Comedy | PG-13 for mild adult themes

An innovative perspective on a classic. A gender-bending, hilarious new take on the classic tale. Robin Hood is (and has always been) Maid Marian in disguise and leads a motley group of Merry Men (few of whom are actually men) against the greedy Prince John. As the poor get poorer and the rich get richer, who, if not Robin, will stand for the vulnerable? What is the cost of revealing your true self in a time of trouble? Modern concerns and romantic entanglements clash on the battlefield and on the ramparts of Nottingham Castle.
