Alumni Service Award Recipients
The Jean Clinton Roeschlaub ’44 Alumni Service Award is given to alumnae who have promoted Stephens College locally and nationally and have served as leaders of the College. The award memorializes Jean's spirit of alumni service. She served as AAB president from 1950-51 and as a member of the Board of Curators (now known as our Board of Trustees) and as the first alumni-chair of the Board from 1981-92. She was named for the Ideal of Forcefulness (predecessor to Leadership)! She would have been deserving of both awards. The award was named for her posthumously by the AAB.

Mark Taylor ’73 and Judy Doyen Taylor ’73
Mark graduated from Stephens College in 1973 along with his girlfriend, Judy Doyen. They each received a B.F.A. from Stephens, and both received their first post-graduation jobs working at the Okoboji Summer Theatre. They then moved to California where Judy pursued a career in film production in Los Angeles while living with Stephens alumna Patricia Barry, and Mark taught undergraduates at the United States International University in San Diego while earning his M.F.A. In 1974, they married and began their adventure in Hollywood.
Judy landed her first job working for Fenton-Feinberg Casting, two of the biggest casting directors in Los Angeles, and Mark started building his life career as an actor.
Mark’s first union job was a role as a waiter on Days of Our Lives which Stephens alumna Patricia Barry also facilitated. Mark graduated from playing a waiter to appearing on several television series (MASH to Seinfeld), features (Honey I Shrunk the Kids to Arachnophobia), and most recently finished filming an episode of NCIS. He has appeared in and directed several plays in Los Angeles, including directing a play starring Stephens alumna Annie Potts. He also had the honor of returning to Okoboji to appear in a production of The Odd Couple with his brother-in-law and fellow Stephens alumni Rob Doyen. If you ask Mark, he will tell you that is one of his most cherished show biz experiences.
Judy went on to become a partner with Fenton-Feinberg, which was eventually renamed Fenton-Taylor Casting. Some of Judy’s movie credits include all three "Back to the Future" movies, the "Free Willy" franchise, "The Little Rascals," "The Mighty Ducks II" and "The Mighty Ducks III," "Sister Act," "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," and "The Goonies," among many others.
Judy later became Senior Vice President of Casting and Talent Relations for Disney Channel from which she retired in 2021. She was extraordinary in developing and nurturing talent, having helped launch the careers of numerous young stars including Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Zac Efron, Dove Cameron, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Milo Manheim, Meg Donnelly, Zendaya and Olivia Rodrigo.
Judy also oversaw the casting for numerous Disney Channel Original Movies, including all three "Descendants" movies; the global sensations "High School Musical" and "High School Musical 2"; "ZOMBIES" and "ZOMBIES 2"; the "Camp Rock" franchise; "Teen Beach Movie" and most recently, "Sneakerella," which premiered in 2021 on Disney+. Additionally, she oversaw casting for popular original series including "Andi Mack," "Sidney to the Max," "BUNK’D," "K.C. Undercover," "Girl Meets World," "Austin & Ally," "Jessie," "Good Luck Charlie," the Emmy Award-winning "Wizards of Waverly Place" and the global smash hit "Hannah Montana," as well as the Disney+ series "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" and the Disney+ film, "Secret Society of Second Born Royals."
In November 2022, Judy was honored with the Seymour Heller Lifetime Achievement Award in Casting by the Talent Managers Association.
Mark has served as a member of the Stephens College Board of Trustees for the past twelve years. He served as Chair of the Trusteeship Committee and Vice Chair of the Board. From 2018-2022, he was Chair of the Board of Trustees guiding the ideation, research, preparation, investment, and launch of the Conservatory for the Performing Arts at Stephens College.
Mark and Judy regularly return to campus to teach seminars about auditioning for film. They were especially honored to do so fall of 2022 when they got to meet and teach the first class in the Stephens Conservatory for the Performing Arts. They are proud that they have two nieces, Danielle and Emily, who are Stephens alumnae. Stephens runs very deep with the Taylors.
The Taylors are quick to note that while doing all of the above, they raised two amazing young men, Ben and Daniel, which without question, is their most prized accomplishment of all.
For a lifetime of hosting alumni events in California, teaching in classrooms, mentoring students and new graduates, making Stephens a philanthropic priority, and serving in the highest capacity of leadership possible, Mark Taylor ’73 and Judy Doyen Taylor ’73 are awarded the 2023 Jean Clinton Roeschlaub ’44 Alumni Service Award.
