Tracy Dean enters her first season as the Stephens College head softball coach after accepting the position on July 15, 2013.
Dean brings with her a tremendous combination of playing and coaching experience and will look to build a solid foundation for the Starsí softball program.
She inherits a program that finished the 2013 season with one American Midwest Conference (AMC) win and a 3-24 overall record.
Most recently, Dean served as assistant softball coach for San Diego City College in 2012-13. During her one-year stint at SDCC, the Knights finished 18-19-1 and went 6-9 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play.
Prior to San Diego City College, Dean was the head JV softball coach at Valhalla High School in 2011. Her coaching resume also includes two years as an assistant for San Diego Legacyís 18U travel team. Outside of coaching, Dean worked at Power Alley Batting Cages where she gave private hitting/fielding lessons and organized group softball clinics.
On the diamond, Dean was a highly decorated softball player out of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif. She earned a scholarship to play at NCAA Division I UC Davis and logged two years as a starter for the Aggies. In 2009, Dean transferred to Point Loma Nazarene University and made an immediate impact in her first and only season with the Sea Lions. She started every game at first base and landed a spot in the PLNU record books at No. 6 all-time for home runs in a single-season (7).
A perfect storm of events, including an injury and the Sea Lionsí softball team being dropped, ended Deanís playing career. The longtime California native went on to earn her bachelorís degree in kinesiology from PLNU in 2011.
