The prerequisites for application to the Stephens College Master in Physician Assistant Studies Program for the 2020-2021 application cycle include successful completion of the following prerequisite courses or equivalents:

  • Medical Terminology (1 credit hour)
  • Psychology (3 credit hours or 4 quarter hours)
  • Statistics (3 credit hours or 4 quarter hours)
  • Chemistry I and II (6 credit hours or 8 quarter hours)
  • Organic Chemistry I (3 credit hours or 4 quarter hours) - must be upper-level course for science majors
  • Biochemistry (3 credit hours or 4 quarter hours) - must be upper-level course for science majors
  • Microbiology (3 credit hours or 4 quarter hours) - must be 200 level or higher course, for science majors
  • Human Anatomy (3 credit hours or 4 quarter hours) - must be 200 level or higher course, for science majors
  • Human Physiology (3 credit hours or 4 quarter hours) - must be 200 level or higher course, for science majors
  • Genetics (3 credit hours or 4 quarter hours) - must be 200 level or higher course, for science majors
  • Cell/Molecular Biology (3 credit hours or 4 quarter hours); if haven’t had Cell/Molecular Biology, An additional upper level biology class that is specific to human anatomy, physiology or disease may be substituted. Examples include Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Embryology, Endocrinology, Gerontology, Virology, Pathophysiology, Molecular Pathology, Evolution and Histology.

Important Prerequisite Notes:

  • All science prerequisite courses must be for science majors; accompanying laboratories are highly recommended and a minimum of two labs are required for the listed courses.
  • All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. Grades of C- or below are not acceptable.
  • Human Physiology/Anatomy & Physiology I & II must have been completed within the last seven years of the fall application deadline. If not, the courses must be retaken.
  • Applicants may apply with no more than THREE outstanding prerequisite courses pending as of December 31 of the year prior to matriculation. No more than three credit hours may be taken over the summer semester prior to August matriculation. These courses must be 200 level or higher and must be for science majors.
