Stephens College embraces a culture of engaged learning.
That means our students are engaged both inside and outside of the classroom to get a well-rounded experience that will give them an edge in the workforce.
Engaged learning begins the minute a student begins her freshman year.
First-Year Experience courses help students understand how their major or area of interest relates to broad historical trends and society at large. The FYE program also benefits from a strong service component that provides rewarding opportunities to experience volunteering and give back to the community.
Because of our rich diversity of creative majors, departments and programs across campus work together, ensuring that students understand how their area of interest relates to other fields.
At Stephens, students don’t have to wait until their third or fourth year to start experiencing their majors outside of the classroom. Each of our programs has a component that provides real-world opportunities.
Our faculty members incorporate creative activities both in and outside of the classroom to complement class discussions. Small class sizes ensure innovation and flexibility in developing inspiring curriculum.
We help students develop research projects or work with faculty members as research assistants. Small class sizes give students broad opportunities to work alongside professors. Stephens enjoys a close relationship with the University of Missouri, giving students access to additional programs and researchers.
The Center for Career and Professional Development works closely to help students find prestigious and meaningful internships. Former students have held internships at companies such as Cosmopolitan magazine, Victoria’s Secret corporate offices and on the set of a major motion picture, as well as at Fortune 500 companies. Most of our programs require an internship to ensure outside experience and industry connections prior to graduation.
We encourage our students to expand their coursework to partner universities across the world when appropriate. We offer study abroad opportunities tailored to enhance any educational pursuit, including volunteer opportunities and internships abroad.
The honors program at Stephens College, known as Stephens Scholars, is a unique learning community designed specifically for first-year students with a strong academic record. Students engage in general education courses together, including those with a strong focus on leadership, and collaborate on classroom and service projects.
