The Spring 2013 Ready to Wear Fashion Week just passed in September. Fashion weeks are about dictating clothing trends. It gives everyone a glance at what is coming up and to express their own style with the latest trends.
The most popular Fashion Weeks are New York, London, Milan, and Paris and they occur in this order every year. These are the four fashion capitals of the world. Also, New York is first because people in the fashion industry did not think that the Americans could come up with designs without looking at Europe for inspiration. Eleanor Lambert, a fashion publicist, arranged “Press Week.” Press Week was to attract attention away from French fashion during World War II. It gave American designers a chance to show off their best pieces and get recognized by the fashion industry and that is exactly what happened. The Fashion Weeks do not stop in those four fashion capitals. There are many fashion weeks that occur all around the world in smaller areas from St. Louis City to countries like Iran.
Fashion Week shoes twice a year. Once in February and those collections are shown in the fall/winter and a second showing in September that occurs in the Spring/Summer. The shows occur before the season so that buyers can place their orders and have them in stores in time for the upcoming season. Also, to give magazines a chance to get editorials together and different outfit inspirations in the magazines.
Some fun facts about Fashion Week:
- Fashion Week is not only runway shows. Its charity events, dinners, showcases, and more.
