Link to video from the scene: Broadway Accident
A Stephens student crossing Broadway Street in Columbia was hit by a car. The student, who’s name is not being released, is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident happened around 6:50, according to a security official. Police officials said the student was crossing the street heading southbound when a car in one lane stopped to let her cross. They said the car in the second lane did not see the girl crossing and struck her.
When security arrived to the scene, the student was laying on the sidewalk next to the street. Soon after, at least four Columbia police cars, one fire truck and an ambulance arrived to the accident. The student was lifted on a stretcher into the ambulance and taken to the University Hospital with “a couple scrapes and bruises,” according to police officials.
Columbia police blocked the eastbound lanes of Broadway and directed traffic.
There’s no word yet on if the driver will face any charges.
