Emily Csengody, a transfer junior fashion communication student, strides into Fashion Perspectives and takes a seat. She is clad in a sophisticated yet
simple black maxi that she’s accented with dainty gold necklaces and a pile of bracelets and a watch on her left arm. She carefully places her black, reptile print Aldo purse on the table and tucks her golden blonde hair behind her ear. She greets classmates with a warm smile while she gets ready to learn more about her future job field.
Here is a peek at the personal style of the ever elegant Csengody.
Stephens Life: What school did you attend before coming to Stephens?
Emily Csengody: I went to Mizzou for two years then decided to transfer to Stephens this semester.
S.L: Why did you choose to study fashion communication?
E.C: My older sister is in the fashion industry and is my biggest inspiration and role model. All of her success has really influenced me to pursue a lifestyle and career in the fashion world.
S.L: How would you describe your personal style?
E.C: I have a very simple yet sophisticated style. I like to find clothes that are practical then accent them with something bold. For example, I will wear my favorite black maxi dress with a colorful/printed scarf or dress it up with a lot of jewelry. I think a great pair of skinny jeans with a top and flats is so simple, stylish and put together.
S.L: What brands do you most identify with? Why?
E.C: My favorite brands are Alice + Olivia, Rag & Bone and Marc Jacobs, as well as Zara and H&M. These brands appeal to my simple everyday style. Occasionally, I will come across a fun/colorful/ poppy jacket or purse that will intrigue me to spice up my outfit. I like finding clothes or accessories that push me out of my comfort zone! I adore Zara and H&M because I can find trendy or classic pieces there at an affordable price.
S.L: What is your favorite fashion trend? Why?
E.C: My favorite fashion trend would definitely be leather pants/leggings. They make me feel edgy and chic at the same time!
S.L: What is your least favorite? Why?
E.C: Don’t get me wrong I adore high wasted shorts, but whoever decided to wear them so high their buttocks hang out is not a trend I would ever be a part of! Ah!
S.L: Who is/are your biggest fashion influence(s)? Why?
E.C: Blake Lively – She is always flawlessly put together from head to toe. She is such an inspiration because she styles herself. It is refreshing to see a celebrity dress so well and know it wasn’t the work of a personal stylist!
Miranda Kerr – I love Miranda’s street style. I think it definitely reflects my personal style because she dresses simple but still looks fabulous.
Of course I idealize Alexander McQueen, Diane Von Furstenberg, Karl Lagerfeld and Max Azria for the luxurious designs.
S.L: What is your favorite item in your closet? Or what do you find yourself wearing the most?
E.C: My BB Dakota leather jacket. I love it so much that I get nervous wearing it sometimes! I would be so upset if something ever happened to it.
S.L: Where do you get inspiration for your outfits?
E.C: I follow my favorite celebrities, designers and boutiques on Tumblr, Pinterest and Instagram, which inspire a lot of my outfits.
S.L: What is your biggest fashion regret?
E.C: My biggest fashion regret would be targeted towards my 7th grade self when I thought a Juicy Couture velour track jacket, jean mini skirt and a pair of colored UGG boots were all the rage.
When class is dismissed Csengody packs her stuff into her stylish bag, straightens her outfit and struts out the door to her next class.
