Stephens women already have a lot on their plate. Some, however, voluntarily add more by running their own blog. From fashion to photography, Stephens women do it all and they do it with style.
Nicole Barth, sophomore MPA major, has been running her poetry blog for almost four years. She was approached by an already published author for the opportunity to be published, but had to turn down the offer.
“He was in England so logistics became a bit complicated,” Barth said.
Barth strives to connect with her readers and does so with her intricate word choice and raw emotions.
“Poetry is like a daydream for me, where everything is open to one’s own interpretation,” she said.
Olivia O’Dell, sophomore fashion communication major, runs a fashion blog called “My Life As Liv” that features some of Stephens very own fashionistas. O’Dell has run her blog now for 5 months and has been featured on fashion blogs around the world.
“I try to update at least once a week, or if there’s a big post that I’ve been working on,” O’Dell said.
O’Dell hopes to give her readers a sense of who she is as well as general fashion advice for women of all shapes and sizes. The best advice O’Dell gave for other bloggers is, “try to have a consistent theme and don’t work for your blog, let your blog work for you. Let it manifest in itself and try to promote yourself through other social media sites. Your blog won’t be huge overnight, it takes time to get your name out there.”
Olivia finds her inspiration in none other than Carrie Bradshaw, the lovable character made famous by HBO’s Sex and The City.
Meredith Jacob, sophomore graphic design and film major, has had her own photography blog for over a year and a half.
“A lot of it is what I do in my film and graphic design classes,” Jacob said.
Jacob’s blog is mainly visual with some descriptions of her photos. Her photos vary in subject matter, but favors animals, especially her own dogs. Even with a busy lifestyle, Meredith tries to post at least a few times a week with some breaks in between.
“I want to capture what I do. I look back and it’s crazy to see all that I’ve accomplished,” Jacob said.
Jacob’s blog is as eclectic as she is herself.
“I have a really fun blog so the way I see it is we’re really young and should go out and experience as much as you can before you’re old and crippled,” she said.
“Just take a bunch of photos and write about random things and when you look back on it it’ll probably mean more to you. Document your life,” Jacob’s said as advice for fellow bloggers.
Colby Elliott, sophomore fashion communication major, indulges in every aspect of fashion in her life . Colby loves to take risks and wears what she adores. Spotted on campus, Elliott rocks vintage and chic clothes head to toe.
A year ago Elliott’s family and friends encouraged her to document her work with others through blogging. By styling herself and her younger sister, she felt it was a great idea to share her thoughts and creativity with others online. Her blog, cocoscecrets.blogspot.com, displays everything from the latest fashion news to photography Elliott takes on a daily basis.
“It is a fashion/photography blog. I usually only post things that are going on in my life at the time and important events (fashion related) that affect my family and friends,” Elliott said.
Elliott dedicates a lot of her time posting tips and tricks on her own personal sense of style. Gaining feedback is important to her.
“I was so amazed at how much people actually read my blog, and enjoyed it. I have received so many great compliments on it, and I appreciate them all,” Elliott said.
Her personal tip to other beauty and fashion gurus, “Don’t think about it, just go for it! Fashion is about risks, start your own trends, don’t follow them.”
