Courtney Desko’s childhood was definitely anything but ordinary. Growing up across the world Desko learned quickly life was going to be a challenge. Spending three years of her childhood in Germany was an adjustment she was forced to take. Desko’s father was stationed in Germany as a military surgeon. At five years old she attended a kindergarten on the air force base with other military children. The other half of her day was spent at a German school where she often felt out of place. Here she never fully understood the German language and adjusting became a challenge. Her older sister on the other hand loved learning a new language, which she became very fluent in. When Desko described her experiences she said with a laugh, “ I didn’t so much want to learn another language. I was 5, I had the mindset I couldn’t be told what to do.” These fond memories of Germany and the places she traveled to will be an experience she’ll never forget. It’s apart of who she is today.
