Stephens launches pre-medical program
Stephens College is launching a new 10-month program that will allow college graduates to add a science certificate to their studies in order to apply for medical school.
The Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Certificate is designed for adults who decide to change careers and enter the healthcare field after they’ve already earned a degree in an unrelated field.
During the 10-month program, students will take biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics.
The curricula will also meet requirements to apply to veterinary, dental, osteopathic and other health professional programs.
“This challenging program provides students with not only the necessary coursework to continue on to professional programs, it also gives them a glimpse of the fast-paced learning environment they will experience in medical or other health profession graduate programs,” said Dr. Tara Giblin, Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences.
The non-degree granting certificate program, open to both women and men, will begin in Summer 2014.
The launch of this certificate also continues Stephens College's tradition of developing innovative programs designed for current market trends. This program will help fill a growing need in the healthcare field: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the healthcare industry is expected to grow 33 percent by 2020.
