News everyone needs: Cupcakes

Part of being a story strategist (no, it does not mean I make things up, I promise) is figuring out who needs to know what information.

Alumnae, for instance, probably don’t need to read emails about how awesome our film studies program is (but, really, it is). High school seniors probably aren’t interested in receiving information about alumnae weekend.

But everyone should know about cupcakes.

If you are an alumnae or a Stephens employee, you should have already read about Simonie Hodges Wilson—we profiled her in the March [from] Stephens newsletter. So if you didn’t read it, go do that now and come back. I’ll wait…

Wilson graduated with a math degree from Stephens in 1993. A couple of years ago, she took a trip to Nashville, noticed how many cupcake shops were in town and wondered why she couldn’t get a decent cupcake close to her home in Liberty.

She got the brilliant idea of creating a mobile cupcake shop and 3 Girls Cupcakes was born. From her cupcake van, she sells goodies such as Caramel Macchiato- and S’Mores-themed cupcakes, as well as popular cream-filled cupcakes.

Mmmmm…

Here’s the really great part, though. Wilson donates 10 percent of sales to children’s charities. How awesome is that?

Anyway, it doesn’t matter if you’re an alumna, future student, employee or Mom (hi Mom), if you’re in or visiting the KC area any time soon, watch for the 3 Girls Cupcakes van. A schedule of locations is on the company’s website.

Of course, if you do visit, you could pick up a Vanilla Cream Cheese cupcake for your favorite Story Specialist/Strategist (by default, that’s me).

    Sounds yummy, but I don’t imagine I’ll be in the K.C. area anytime real soon!
    I had cupcakes yesterday at our ladies luncheon (but they weren’t vanilla cream cheese).

    That’s OK, Mom! Glad you had some yummy cupcakes there…I’m slowly but surely encouraging the 3 Girls Cupcakes van to make its way to Columbia (O.M.Goodness how exciting would that be?!) I’ll sneak you an extra vanilla cream cheese—OK, I might not actually get the vanilla cream cheese cupcake to you ;-)
