Getting Started

The Stephens College residence halls are installed with wireless access points to provide network access to all students subscribed to the network service. To connect to the wireless network students must have a wireless 802.11 b/g adaptor installed in their desktop or laptop computer. They must also register their computer to the network.

How to Access Wireless Internet Connection on Campus For Windows:

  1. Click the Windows ‘Start’ button.
  2. Click on the ’Connect To’ menu item.
  3. From the drop down menu select the wireless connection. (Windows XP users will need to click the “available networks” button.)
  4. Select the ‘StudentWiFi’ wireless network.
  5. You will be re-directed to a registration page, where you can login with your MyStephens/Blackboard/printing username and password.
  6. After your computer is registered on our network, you will be able to browse the Internet.

For MAC OS X:

  1. Make sure Airport is turned on. (If Airport is off, go to System Preferences- Network-Airport) and select Turn Airport On.
  2. From the Airport menu click the pull down menu and select the wireless network labeled ‘StudentWifi’.
  3. You will be re-directed to a registration page, where you can login with your MyStephens/Blackboard/printing username and password.
  4. After your computer is registered on our network, you will be able to browse the Internet. If you can’t connect to the wireless network or you think your computer is infected with a virus, please call us at x4381 or (573) 876-2381 and we can assist you.

Keep in mind that all users on the wireless network share bandwidth. The more users that are connected, the less bandwidth will be available per user. We continue to monitor and upgrade our total bandwidth when necessary. In order to provide better service, Information & Technology Services reserves the right to limit connections according to the amount of bandwidth being utilized. Such applications such as video conferencing, file sharing, and video streaming are bandwidth intensive, and are subject to ‘rate-limiting' when the network becomes saturated.

Please be respectful with your use of network resources. Running one network application at a time, as opposed to several, will enable all users to share equally the network resources, which are available.

Once you obtain the MAC address you will need to submit a helpdesk request to have the MAC address authorized on the campus network.
