The Career Services Office serves current Stephens College students and alumnae. All services are free of charge.
Available services include:
- Individual consultation to solve any career-related issues. Students can receive assistance with determining a major and/or career objective. This will be done through career counseling and career assessment. Students will also be taught how to gather all the information they need to make good, informed choices about their futures.
- Assistance with securing part-time employment while attending college. This can be either work-study employment or non-work-study employment out in the community. The Career Services Office coordinates the work-study program. We have a part-time jobs board right outside our office for students who are interested in off-campus employment.
- Access to our career resource library, which contains numerous books, hand-outs, and access to several on-line subscriptions containing information on everything related to careers. We have a lot of information on all parts of the internship/job search process, different types of careers, company descriptions, salary surveys, graduate school information; current popular career magazines and books; information on summer jobs, international opportunities, volunteer work, and much more.
- A Credential Service that provides letters of recommendation to employers or graduate/professional schools to support the student's application. All packets of materials are sent to potential employers at no cost to the student/alumna.
- Networking with alumnae. The Alumnae Career Connection program, a web-based database that includes information on numerous (500 as of 5/07) alumnae in a variety of career fields, is now available. The information includes contact information, current employment information, and a list of career-related issues with which the alumna is willing to help. These alumnae have volunteered to assist students in their career exploration and internship/job search. Click to enter database.
Student Employment
Each year many students earn a portion of their
educational expenses by working part-time. If you are awarded a Federal
Work-Study or Stephens Employment grant, you can apply for one of our
many work-study positions. Work-study students work in the library,
post office, academic departments, administrative offices, residence
halls, and recreation areas. There are also community service work-study
sites, the Stephens College Children's School, KWWC-FM, and Columbia
Access TV. These positions are only available to students with
Federal Work-Study grants. Part-time, off-campus employment opportunities
are available for students who do no qualify for work-study grants.
Please visit the part-time jobs board, right outside the Office of Career
Development, which is updated once each week.
Students interested in applying for a work-study position should first view all of the job listings at Work-Study Job Listings. Then, they should complete the on-line Work-Study Job Application and electronically submit it to every supervisor who has a position in they are interested. Once hired, students should download/print the Student Emplyment Form (below) or come to the Office of Career Development to pick up a Student Employment Form. They must complete that form, submit it, and receive a Work Permit before starting their work-study jobs.
