Room to Grow

Room to Grow
The Campaign for Classrooms

Today, our classrooms must reflect the way our students learn and provide them with the resources and technology necessary to enhance their study. The campaign will fund renovations in the James Madison Wood Learning Center—including Dudley Hall, Walter Hall and the Pillsbury Science Center—where the majority of our students study during their academic careers at Stephens.

  • Significant technology upgrades (i.e. standardized
    teaching podiums and Smart Boards)
  • Much-needed cosmetic improvements (i.e. new
furnishings, window and wall coverings, flooring and
lighting). This will also include hallways, which often
contribute to a student’s first impression when touring
    campus.

The Room to Grow campaign is not about furniture. It’s about excellence.
We are asking you to give. Give back to Stephens.

A Stephens education engages women in self-discovery, in the practice of their craft, in the excitement of exchanging new ideas. A Stephens education gives students and their professors Room To Grow—to be challenged, to achieve. The stage for these creative expressions ripe with intellectual and emotional exchanges has always been our classrooms. These spaces are where we continue to inspire students with a love of learning while preparing them for their lives and careers.

laptopsToday, faculty and students use technology that did not exist when these buildings were built. Students take notes on iPads or laptop computers—and later access presentation slides, and notes written on a classroom SMARTboard, that professors post to the class website. They move chairs and desks, they move computer screens and laptops to share their searches—and the more comfortable they are, within an environment that can adapt so perfectly to their needs, the more they engage in collaborative discussions, think creatively . . . and learn.
