The Campaign for Classrooms

Our classrooms are at the heart of Stephens College. It is here that our faculty inspires, mentors and connects with students, expanding their intellects -- and their horizons. We must create 21st-century classrooms for our 21st-century learners. Our future -- and theirs -- depends on it.

Today's students expect -- and deserve -- learning environments that are bright, welcoming, comfortable and supported by cutting-edge technology. They expect study rooms, collaborative spaces, discussion areas and interactive technology that support and enhance their educational experience. That's the new status quo in higher education, and those are the signifiers -- to our students and their parents -- that excellence in teaching and learning is happening here. They've seen it in their high schools, and they assume they will find it in their Stephens College classrooms. With your help, through your generous donation to the Room to Grow campaign, they will.

Your gift will help us create learning spaces that are as innovative and inspiring as the educational experience we deliver within them.

Our goal is to renovate all classrooms in the James Madison Wood Learning Center -- including Dudley Hall, Walter Hall and the Pillsbury Science Center -- where the majority of our students study during their academic careers at Stephens. The Room to Grow campaign also will renovate the hallways and restrooms in these buildings.

The Room to Grow campaign will allow us to enhance the quality and aesthetics of our classrooms, including improvements in design, furnishings and technology. Space matters, and we can no longer ask our students to master today's knowledge and skills in yesterday's classrooms.

laptopsResearch shows that teaching environments that encourage and support collaboration and active participation have a positive impact on student success. Appropriate lighting, comfortable and functional furnishings, and the latest in teaching technologies are key components of high-quality academic spaces. From our science labs to our lecture halls, from our studios to our seminar rooms, Stephens' classrooms must be revitalized into environments as contemporary and compelling as the activities that occur within them. Our amazing Stephens students deserve nothing less.
