For $250, patrons may "buy" a new seat with a name inscribed on a nameplate place on the arm. If you are interested in purchasing a seat, perhaps to memorialize a loved one, send a check to Beth Leonard, Okoboji Summer Theatre, P.O. Box 341, Spirit Lake, IA 51360.

2006 Performance Schedule

“Pippin”
June 20-25
By Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz
Musical
Once upon a time, the young prince Pippin longed to discover the secret of true happiness. In the end, he discovers that happiness is found in the simple pleasures of home and family. What better way to open the 2006 season than a captivating musical that appeals to the young of heart everywhere. Help OST kick off this 49th season with a night that will showcase one show stopping number after another!

“The View from Here”
June 27-July 2
By Margaret Dulaney
Comic Drama
Set in a small town in Kentucky, this warm piece is a comedy about an agoraphobic. Fern wins a microwave from Krogers, but must appear in person to claim it. And thus the fun begins! You have to see this lovely play to find out how it ends. But the action moves so smoothly from flamboyantly funny to profoundly moving, that you will be caught up in these lives surrounded by hope and healing.

“The Dining Room”
July 4-9
By A.R. Gurney, Jr.
Comedy
“A richly humorous theatrical tour de force” “...hilarious and touching,” say the play’s reviewers. How better to honor July 4th than by celebrating the most hollowed of American rooms... the dining room! It’s sometimes neglected now, but through a series of scenes, we are taken on a journey that recalls the glory of sitting down and eating together! This is one everyone can relate to!

“The Octette Bridge Club”
July 11-16
By P.J. Barry
Sentimental Comedy
On alternate Friday evenings, eight sisters meet to play bridge and gossip. The time is 1934 and you can just imagine the highjinks. This is a delightful, funny and maybe moving glimpse of the sort of lives we are familiar with – our own! Red Hat Ladies, this is one for you! Gentlemen, don’t be afraid, you, too will enjoy seeing the complications of eight sisters facing each other over the card table!

“Beehive”
July 18-23
By Larry Gallagher
Musical
Come and wear sturdy shoes because you will be tapping your toes from the time you sit down until you reluctantly get up to go home! It’s full of music celebrating the ’60s. This musical is a non-stop revisit to our rock ‘n’ roll past. You can’t be too old or too young for this one. After clapping and maybe singing along with this play, you might just go home and look for those old saddle shoes or penny loafers!

“The House of Blue Leaves”
July 25-30
By John Guare
Adult Farce
This may be the wackiest play ever produced on the OST stage. It is a brilliant play, which will star OST favorite Rob Doyen. It is adult in that it combines hilarity, poignancy and sometimes the outrageous. It has been called “zany and original.” If you love theatre and are interested in being challenged by a play that won the Critics Award and the Obie as the Best American Play, then don’t miss this!

“Goodnight Ladies”
Aug. 1-6
By Cyrus Wood
Farce
This play has also been called “Ladies Night in a Turkish Bath.” Well, that pretty much says it all! The story is about a young college girl who is in love with a shy professor. But that’s as sane as it gets. From the moment he comes to visit her family, comic chaos reigns. This wonderful play has been loved forever, and OST thought it was about time to give it life anew.

“Over the River and Through the Woods”
Aug. 8-13
By Joe DiPietro
Comedy
This is something that audiences have been asking for and so here it is! Addison Myers, Rob Doyen, Lamby Hedge and Beth Leonard will all appear in this wonderful play. It will probably be one of the only times you can see these four actors onstage together so make plans to buy your tickets now. They play two sets of grandparents dealing with a beloved grandson, and reviews claim that it is “loaded with laughs every step of the way.” This is a gift to all patrons who have supported and loved OST.

“The Will Rogers Follies”
Aug. 15-20
Book by Peter Stone; Lyrics by Comden & Green; Music by Cy Coleman
Family Musical
What a way to end this all-American season! Will Rogers is famous for saying, “I never met a man I didn’t like,” and anyone who as seen this musical can probably say that they never met a man-or-woman-who did not like it! This is a celebration of a folk hero who made the world “a whole lot better place” than it was before he entered it. Say goodbye to OST’s 49th season by sharing an evening with a much loved past.
