Parallel Views: Juxtapositions of Art, Fashion, Time and Place
Feb. 11, 2012-May 5, 2012
noon-3 p.m. Saturday-Sunday and 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday
Historic Costume Gallery
Mezzanine floor of Lela Raney Wood Hall, 6 N. College Ave

Both fashion and art fall prey to the gaze of the viewer. Both are open to interpretation. "Parallel Views: Juxtapositions of Art, Fashion, Time and Place" is set up to give the patron a chance to see items of dress from the Stephens College Costume Museum and Research Library paired with selected pieces from the Stephens Fine Arts Collection. An impressive mixture of artists is being showcased such as Dali, Picasso, James Rosenquist, Lester Johnson, and fashion theatre illustrators Erte and Stephen Stippleman. Artistic styles represented in the exhibit include Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Surrealism, Photo-realism, Cubism, and Hard Edge, combined with fabric/garment surface design details, geometric prints, and photo printed pieces. Garments, produced between 1912-2012, feature labels from Ossie Clark, Stephen Burrows, Chanel, Eisenberg and Oleg Cassini. The curatorial staff has blurred the boundaries of expression and technique of both fashion and art to capture the moment and repetition of time and space.
Fee: Free and open to the public.
