The image behind the inauguration: Sursum! is a bronze sculpture that was created by Nancy Fyfe Cardozier ’45 of Austin, Texas, at the request of Stephens' Student Government Association. The sculpture’s name is derived from the motto of Cardozier’s mentor, artist Elisabet Ney: “onward and upward.”
“To me, Sursum! is an embodiment of at least five of the Ten Ideals, and depicts the spirit, optimism and independence of the true Stephens woman,” says Nancy.
