STEPHENS COLLEGE RECEIVES 2011-2012
CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER FIVE-STAR AWARD

Five StarCOLUMBIA, Mo. – Stephens College has been named a recipient of the Champions of Character Five-Star Award for the 2011-12 academic year by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Stephens received the award based on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in each of the following categories: character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. The College also earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages.

"Receiving this award speaks directly to the caliber of our student-athletes at Stephens,” said Tony Coleman, Champions of Character Representative at Stephens. “It’s an honor for them to be rewarded for not only their efforts in the classroom and the sports they participate in, but also for their involvement in community service. Stephens’ entire Athletic department promotes the Champions of Character five core values to our student athletes in an effort to help them become strong ethical leaders both in their team’s lives and their personal lives.”

Institutions are measured using the NAIA Scorecard and is based on the NAIA’s flagship program Champions of Character, which emphasizes the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership. To receive this award, institutions must score at least 60 out of 100 possible points.
