SC EVENTS INTRODUCES BOOT CAMP FOR BRIDES
COLUMBIA, Mo. – As part of their job at SC Events, the events division at Stephens College, Kelly McCarville and Amanda Burfield have become familiar with a very particular type of customer: the overwhelmed bride. In response, they’ve developed Bridal Boot Camp, an event designed to educate brides on every aspect of the wedding-planning process – and even beyond, into the first steps of newlywed life.
McCarville, who is director of SC Events, says Bridal Boot Camp is the first event of its kind in Columbia and different from traditional bridal shows because its focus is on education. The event, to be held Jan. 9, 2010, is organized into four one-hour sessions, each focusing on a different aspect of wedding planning.
At “Mission I Do,” participants will learn how to plan the ceremony, including details on flowers, music, photography and bridal attire. Another session titled “Basic Training” will focus on everything related to the venue and the reception. “Invade the Details” will cover the many small but key aspects of planning a wedding – the invitations, the cake, the attendants. Finally, “It’s Official” will help participants look beyond the wedding day to plan for more lasting decisions – tips on honeymoon travel, first-home buying and financial planning.
Sessions will be presented by vendors whose combined years of experience mean participants will get not only the basics, but also harder-to-come-by insider tips. “Many brides don’t know they can hire a wedding planner just for the day of the wedding, for example,” says McCarville. “These are the kinds of little secrets Bridal Bootcamp can teach you.” Inside Columbia magazine, a main sponsor of the event, will present ideas as well.
McCarville says she’s also noticed many people don’t know how to help a friend or relative who is planning a wedding. Recently a maid of honor called McCarville to ask for information. The caller said she didn’t know how to help the bride, and that all she knew was that her friend wanted to get married under a tree.
“Bringing your bridal party with you to Bridal Bootcamp can help everyone understand the work that goes into planning a wedding, and it can give you ideas on how to get each person involved,” she says.
Amanda Burfield, event coordinator with SC Events, says the event can be useful for brides at every stage of the planning process, and for anyone with an interest in event planning.
“Even if you have all your vendors chosen and are getting married in three months, Bridal Bootcamp can help you with great tips to help your day go more smoothly,” she says.
The event, to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at various locations on the Stephens College campus, will include a “base camp,” where participants can get refreshments and visit vendor booths at any time throughout the day, and a groom’s break room. Bride admission is $10 (with a free gift with advance online registration); admission fee for guests accompanied by a bride is $5. Lunch tickets are available for an additional $10 fee.
