Stephens participates in "Extreme Makeover" in Joplin
Stephens is proud to be part of ABC’s Emmy Award-winning reality TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s largest build ever. The show’s October Joplin project is building seven homes in seven days (Oct. 19-26) for families who suffered losses in the May 22, 2011, tornado that destroyed much of the city. The historic 200th episode will air later this season on the ABC Television Network.EMHE
Two Stephens teams (comprised of 30 people, including Stephens students and faculty in Interior Design and Fashion) are working on two homes. Stephens Interior Design instructor Shelly Vincent-Masek is serving as a team leader in charge of customization on one of the homes, which involves many seamstresses responsible for window treatments, bedding, upholstered projects and pillows for the homes. Their workroom and home base is at the Big Red Barn RV Park, where they have a space that’s roughly the size of a three-car garage. Three Stephens students also are creating a special mural in one of the homes.
