2009 Opening Convocation


Welcome in the New Year
Our annual Opening Convocation will be held from 11 a.m-noon on Thursday, Sept. 2 in the Kimball Ballroom of Lela Raney Wood Hall. All classes are canceled at this time only so students and faculty may attend. Offices may be closed (except for those that are needed for emergency purposes). Leadership points available!

The keynote speaker will be Jenny Stahl, BS ’05, MBA ’06, corporate events manager for AOL LLC in New York. Other speakers will include Stephens President Dianne Lynch, SGA President Samantha Cook '11, Mortar Board President Elaine Hughes ’11, Faculty Chair Dr. Leslie Willey and Stephens' 2010 Distinguished Teacher Sara Linde Patel.

Refreshments will be served in Macey Lounge immediately following the event.




Student Tea Party
The second annual Interior Design Tea Party was held on Aug. 24. Incoming freshmen had the opportunity to meet upperclasswomen.

Student Notices
Upcoming Fairs
The community involvement fair, otherwise known as the Volunteer Fair, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Windsor Lounge and the Pit.

There is also a Study Abroad Fair scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 4-6 p.m. in the Pit.

The Campus Involvement Fair will be Thursday, Sept. 9 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Windsor Lounge and the Pit.

Master Class Auditions

Mary Saunders, Head of Voice/Musical Theatre at Penn State, is coming to Stephens to teach a master class (2-5 p.m.) on Saturday, Sept. 11. Auditions will be held from 12-12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31 and Thursday, Sept. 2. An audition sign-up sheet has been posted on the third floor of Historic Senior Hall. Students should be prepared to sing an entire musical theatre song and a 16-bar cut. An accompanist will be provided. Results will be posted on Friday, Sept. 3. Students who are selected for the master class will be featured in a showcase concert the evening of Saturday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Historic Senior Hall. The class registration fee is $30. Observers are welcome to attend the master class for $10. Leadership points available for the showcase.
