Stephens Student Spotlight
Name:
Valerie Fehringer

Class Year:
Junior

Major:
Fashion Marketing and Management

Minor:
Event Planning

Hometown:
Lindsay, Nebraska

Family:
parents, Tom and Julie Fehringer; two younger siblings

Campus Activities:
Innovative Fashion Association, Campus Life Unleashed, Student Ambassadors, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Alpha Lambda Delta. This is my second year holding the Social and Fundraising Chair position for Student Ambassadors, and I am the Vice President of SIFE this year. I have also been an orientation group leader for the last two fall semesters and I was selected to be a peer teacher this year for the extended orientation course, Stephens Success.

I decided to attend Stephens because:
The top three reasons why I came to Stephens were the excellent fashion programs, the unique opportunities/courses that Stephens offers and the amazing network of inspiring Stephens alumnae.

Most enjoy about Stephens:
Small campus community, having my own room and the fact that Stephens College is seven and a half hours away from Nebraska.

Favorite place on campus/in Columbia:
Senior Hall is my favorite place on campus and my favorite place in Columbia is Stephens Lake Park.

Favorite class(es):
Textiles, Concepts of Retail Control, Principles of Marketing and Fashion Show Production

After I graduate, I plan to:
Get my master's through the Stephens Plus One program, and then work for a big apparel company or a designer in either New York, Texas or in London.

In my spare time:
I like to read, exercise, sketch, play with different programs on my MAC, shop and hang out with friends.

Celebrate the Holidays

Everyone is invited to the All-Campus Holiday Party from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4. Hosted by the Staff Advisory Council, the event will feature a reception (hors d’ouevres and beverages) in LRW, performance by the Children’s School, costume contest, bonfire, and even a visit from Santa! Be sure to bring your family. A collection for non-perishable items will be held; items will be donated to the local food bank.

Also the same evening, head out to the Stables for the Stephens Equestrian Studies Annual Holiday “Open Stables.” During the Annual Holiday party, the Equestrian Studies department faculty and staff invite you and your family for an old-fashioned hay ride to the Stephens Stables. Once there, enjoy the festive atmosphere, the cider or hot chocolate, and the best of equine company. Hay rides leave from the bonfire area every 15 minutes starting at 5:15 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.

New Registrar’s Office Hours
The Registrar’s Office will have new office hours beginning on Dec. 7. The office hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
