Swiss Prison Installation
Therese Pfeifer, an artist and adjunct professor in the
Stephens School of Design and Fashion, exhibited her work
in seven cells of a discontinued Swiss prison in the city
of Thun. Never before in Switzerland has a prison become
a space of artistic engagement.
The commissioned installation, titled “Time, Folded,”
combined video, painting, photography and sculpture to create
the experience of confinement. Pfeifer drew her inspiration
from a set of exchanges with a prisoner in a high-security
detention center. She sought not to probe justice but “time
that is folded, creased and crumpled under the weight of
the prison walls. Here, guilt and solitude flatten the past,
while lifelong sentences prohibit the future.”
Pfeifer painted her own “Last Judgment” and
installed figures that “cast long shadows down the
pasty prison walls.” The show, which was held from
Oct. 24-Nov. 8, was greeted by an enthusiastic and curious
public.

Free LSAT Test Prep Course
Are you taking the LSAT? If so, would
you like to win a free LSAT Test Prep course (valued at
$1100)? AtlasLSAT, a new test prep company, is giving Stephens
the opportunity to award one free online course to a student
with financial need. The student who wins the course would
be required to pay a $300 deposit before the class begins
to ensure the student’s participation; the deposit
would be refunded at the end of the course.
If you are interested in this award, write an essay addressing
why you are interested in law school, and why you believe
you are deserving of this free LSAT prep course. Submit
your essay to Professor Zylstra’s office (Dudley 103)
by Nov. 23. She will evaluate these essays
and, combined with a determination of financial need, will
award the free online course.
