Campus Announcements
Student
Spotlight: Lauren Holman
Class Year: Junior
Major: Mass Media with an
emphasis in Broadcast Journalism (minor: Digital Filmmaking)
Hometown: Columbia, Missouri
Family: Parents, Jim and
Jeana Holman; siblings, Josh, Maddi (twin), Jacob
Campus Activities: Swim team,
SGA Residence Life representative, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor
Society, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Residence Life (resident director
of Pillsbury)
I decided to attend Stephens because: I
really enjoyed the small class size and campus. I knew I'd
be able to succeed and hold leadership positions in a smaller
setting more easily. Having both the mass media and film
department at one school caters to what I am looking for
as possible career options.
Most enjoy about Stephens: I enjoy seeing
familiar faces on campus every day. It's comforting knowing
the faces you see on a day-to-day basis instead of not knowing
anyone around you. I also love the fact that teachers and
faculty know you on a first-name basis.
Favorite place on campus/in Columbia: My
favorite place on campus is probably Pillsbury just because
I enjoy interacting with all my residents and getting to
know each one on an individual basis.
Favorite class(es): I enjoy my radio classes
and film classes. I like the classes that are project driven
and hands-on. It makes my time more worthwhile knowing that
I have projects to show what I've learned.
After I graduate, I plan to: Ideally I
would love to move to L.A. and work in the television broadcast
industry out there. Most likely I'll stay around Missouri
and work locally and possibly go to graduate school.
What most people don't know: I am an extremely
shy person and I blame that on the fact that I'm a twin
and have relied heavily on her for most of my life.
In my spare time: I don't have much spare
time due to swimming and Res. Life but typically I'm hanging
out with friends.
Chapter Receives Award
Alpha Epsilon Eta, Stephens’ chapter of the Sigma
Tau Delta International English Honor Society, won the 2009
Best Chapter Project Award for its relationship with the
Home of Love orphanage in India, facilitated by Vessels
International, a non-profit organization to help women and
children at risk around the world. Renee Reed-Miller, a
2002 graduate of the English/Creative Writing Department,
started Vessels, and first approached her home chapter to
form a partnership. The award included $300 to buy a computer
for the Home of Love and an additional $250 for Stephens’
chapter in recognition of its service. Click
to read more about the work of the chapter (the article
is on page 11 of the newsletter).
